Study yoga in paradise

Have you been dreaming of doing your yoga teacher training with salty hair, sandy toes, wearing no makeup and only board shorts? Can you imagine finishing a sweaty sunrise yoga practice, then strolling down to the beach for a swim and a fresh coconut?

If this sounds like perfect YTT vibes, Puerto Escondido is the place for you to dive into your academic yoga journey! Join Kanami in this idyllic beach town on Mexico’s Oaxacan Coast at her beautiful outdoor yoga shala. You will be shaded from the hot tropical sun by the cool palapa roof, and by the refreshing Zicatela sea breeze passing through. Regardless if you are looking to become a yoga teacher, or are simply interested in learning more and strengthening your personal practice, this transformational journey is for you. You will receive your 200 hour Yoga Alliance accredited certification upon graduation of this course.

Kanami has been teaching yoga in Canada, Japan, California, and Mexico for over 10 years, and is the founder of the Powder Yoga Niseko studio in Niseko, Japan. She is an E-RYT 500 hour Certified Teacher with Yoga Alliance, a Mat Pilates Instructor, a Traditional Thai Masseuse, and has also worked as a whitewater rafting river guide for 12 years before she decided to focus more on Powder Yoga. Yoga keeps her strong, focused, and flexible so she can play the sports she loves, wanderlust around the globe, and make a living along the way. Sharing her love for yoga, health, wellness, travel, pilates, sport, and the great outdoors is her ultimate passion.

200 hour YTT

Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, Mexico

July 21st – August 24th 2020

Puerto Escondido is an idyllic beach town on Mexico’s Oaxacan Coast that has managed to remain under the radar of mainstream tourism in spite of its world-class surfing, long stretches of golden sand beaches, growing yoga community, and thriving culinary scene. There is something for everyone in Puerto regardless if you want to relax in a hammock with a book all day, or plan daily adventures.

Your daily course schedule will leave plenty of time for exploring the area, and even the chance to try out the world-class surf breaks of Zicatela and La Punta….if you dare! Puerto Escondido is known as a surfing Mecca due to it’s infamous and absolutely giant wave on Zicatela beach, but there is an abundance of other great things to do in this area and smaller waves to surf.

Our comprehensive 200-Hour Teacher Training Program will transform your practice, pass on the ancient teachings of yoga, and give you all the tools required to teach a solid Hatha, Power, and Flow yoga class. Our curriculum is Yoga Alliance approved, and upon graduation you are eligible to become a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with the largest international nonprofit association representing the yoga community. You will also have an incredibly supportive community to help you on your journey, and you will gain lifelong friends during the course who will continue to support you for years to come.

Course Curriculum

  • TEACHING ASANA

The principles of teaching, cueing, assisting, demonstrating, theming, sequencing, and how to put together a well-rounded and thoughtful Hatha, Flow, and Power Vinyasa class. Learn hundreds of poses in both their English and Sanskrit names, and the foundations of each pose from the ground up.

  • WESTERN & YOGIC ANATOMY

Learn the western anatomy of bones, joints, connective tissue, muscles, breathing, nervous and circulatory systems, injuries, and as well as basic prenatal yoga. You will also learn the energetic effects of yoga on the body, and will study PRANA in detail. What it is, the different techniques that direct prana, Kundalini energy and it’s infinite potential, the chakra systems, bandhas, Ayurveda, the vayus, and the nadis.

  • MEDITATION & PRANAYAMA

Practice different styles and techniques of meditation and pranayama (yogic breathing exercises) everyday. Develop a deep understanding and connection with both so you can easily share their immense benefits with your students.

  • HISTORY AND PHILOSOPHY OF YOGA

Study Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras and how these teachings provide a very real model that can be applied to daily life. You will also get to discuss and learn in detail about Yoga’s journey to the West, and the most influential yogis of our time.

  • THE BUSINESS OF YOGA

Discuss the ethics of yoga, code of conduct, and important qualities of a successful teacher. Learn about the business of yoga, defining your mission, marketing yourself, and setting your goals and dreams.

  • PRACTICE TEACHING

The fastest way to becoming a great yoga teacher is practice, practice, and more practice. Students will be given plenty of classroom time to plan many styles of classes: from a challenging, fast-paced Power practice, to a super mellow, relaxing yin stretch-out, and everything in between. Emphasis will be made to try different classes out on each as often as possible during and after the course. This is a great opportunity to receive feedback, get creative, and learn from one another.
