Kanami has been guiding people out of their comfort zones and into wild new places for almost two decades. She was a whitewater rafting guide for many years before getting into yoga, health, and wellness. For twelve years she was in charge of taking people out into the wilderness, and training them on how to navigate down challenging and remote rivers all over Australia, Canada, Colombia, Ecuador, Japan, Uganda, and the USA.
Although she did not start teaching until later in life, she has been a dedicated yoga practitioner since the age of eighteen. But after many shoulder injuries, she eventually had to transition out of outdoor guiding completely, and started to focus solely on yoga, health, and wellness. Ten years ago she taught her first yoga class in the ski town Niseko in northern Japan and called it Powder Yoga. Now Powder Yoga is a busy yoga studio which she owns and operates every winter.
Her background in outdoor adventure guiding greatly influenced the style of yoga she likes to teach, and she is always looking for ways to push students out of their comfort zones on and off their yoga mats. Kanami encourages students to stay lighthearted and to have fun, and loves to create unusual combinations with yoga, activities, and subject matter.
She is an E-RYT 500 hour Certified Teacher with Yoga Alliance, and just opened up her first Registered Yoga School. She is teaching a 200 hour Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training course in Niseko this March/April, and in Southern Mexico in July/August. She is also a Mat Pilates Instructor, a Traditional Thai Masseuse, and is the main teacher, as well as the director of her studio Powder Yoga Niseko.
“Yoga keeps me strong, focused, and flexible so I can play the sports I love, wanderlust around the globe, and make a living along the way. Sharing my love for yoga, health, wellness, travel, pilates, sport, and the great outdoors is my ultimate passion. Will you come and join me?”
